Students, Faculty, Staff - how did you end up at North Park University?
It was late July, early August in 2006. My sister, who is my identical twin, and I had never been to North Park and were accepted into a different college. We were completely decided on going to that college and had even talked to our roommates and received our schedule for the fall. That was until one Sunday, a North Park alum had heard me play my flute in Grace Covenant Church, Iron River, MI - my home church and home town. He suggested that my sister and I apply to North Park just to test out the water and see if it would be a good fit. So, we did. We took a chance fully knowing that we had never even seen the campus and had never been to Chicago let alone any other big city.
Then we went to CHIC 2006 with my youth group. It was honestly one of the deciding factors for us at that time. We heard Pastor Judy talk, had an amazing worship experience and felt the North Park community welcoming us in.
Two weeks later my sister and I, my mom and her two best friends, were all in a truck packed with all of our belongings on our way to Chicago as North Park students. We were registered for classes, had our room assignments, and were ready to go to our first collegiate level class. The first place we went was straight to Ohlson House. It was almost a surreal experience for me. This was my new home, my new school, my new city and my sister and I were all on our own. My mom and her friends left the next day. That was it, we became North Park students!
That first night in Ohlson House I tried to put two and two together to figure out how coming to North Park equaled four. I had never dreamed that I would end up in Chicago. Looking back on how things fell into place with how my sister and I got here, there is no other explanation except for the fact that it was all in God's plan for me. God has worked around me, through me, and with me during my time here and I thank North Park for the community, education, and all the challenges that I have faced because I have made it through 3 years now and I have even more goals now than I did 3 years ago.
